exhibition as part of foto wien 2025
every photograph is rooted in a different place and time at the moment it is taken. the exhibition features black-and-white and color photographs taken in 2019 in sydney and auckland with an analog medium-format camera. the opportunity to develop the film on site was missed, so the hidden images traveled the long distance to vienna. the roll of film was forgotten and did not end up in the lab until 2025. the film bore traces of its long journey. these visible defects led to the idea of analog post-processing, as was common in the early days of photography. both analog and digital techniques highlight different temporal planes. the story behind each photo traverses multiple time periods. in doing so, the anachronistic technique of hand-coloring emphasizes that past which was once the future. furthermore, the coexistence of analog and digital points to a future where boundaries and techniques become more permeable.
